This marine multibeam, geophysical and sampling survey took place from 13/12/2015 – 29/12/2015 in the area of the South Shetland Trench on board the RV Hespérides. This collaborative survey was carried out by the British Geological Survey (BGS) and University of Aberdeen under the PharmaDEEP project. The aim of the survey was sampling deep-and-cold-water habitats in search of unique sources of natural products for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases, and provide other biological, geological survey and mapping work. Sea floor bathymetry data were collected using a EM120 multibeam system. Sub bottom seismic profiling data were collected using an Topas CHIRP system. Seabed samples were collected using a gravity corer. The gravity corer sampling data are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in the EUROFLEETS2 Report of Survey.
