| abstract |
This collaborative NERC marine geophysical and sampling survey took place in August 1990 in the North Sea Block 15/25 aboard the Royal Research Ship RSS Challenger (CH70). The purpose was to study a large pockmark in the Witch Ground Basin, North Sea and compare biology & geochemistry of the sediments and map the distribution of sub-surface gas. A total of 26 survey lines were collected. Sea floor data were collected using an echo-sounder and sidescan sonar. Subsurface sesimic data were gathered using a Deep-tow boomer and Pinger. The data were recorded as paper records. The geophysical data are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS Internal Report WB/90/49R.
